Tallest Building in Gothenburg Seen from the Ship

Karlatornet, the tallest building in Sweden, after spotting it in Cities: Skylines. A real-life surprise in the heart of Gothenburg!

Karlatornet

The tallest building in Sweden is something I never expected to stumble upon during a game—but that’s exactly what happened. While playing Cities: Skylines, I came across this striking skyscraper that instantly caught my attention. There was just something about it that made me feel like, “This has to be real.” I didn’t know where in the world it was, but I was 100% sure it existed. And guess what? I was right—it’s called Karlatornet, and it’s located in Gothenburg, Sweden!

I Knew It! Karlatornet Is Real!

I first came across this building while designing my dream city in the game. It quickly became one of my favorite structures to place. Every time I added it to my city, I had this feeling deep down that it wasn’t just made up—and finally, I confirmed it.

Funny thing is, when we docked in Gothenburg, it was raining. Not exactly the best weather for exploring. But honestly, rain or shine, I wasn’t planning to go ashore anyway—so the gloomy weather didn’t bother me. What mattered most to me was seeing Karlatornet from a distance. Just getting a glimpse of it in real life was more than enough.

Karlatornet stands about 246 meters tall (around 807 feet) with over 70 floors, making it the tallest building in Gothenburg and all of Sweden. It’s located in the Lindholmen district, a place known for innovation and tech. The building is mixed-use, with apartments, offices, a hotel, shops, and even a sky bar with stunning views of the city.

It’s such a cool experience when something from a video game turns out to be real. It makes the world feel more connected—and way more exciting.

Have you ever discovered a real place you first saw in a game?
