I Bought a Turntable… and Got Hooked on Vinyl Records
By Dex / April 2, 2026

At first, I thought vinyl was just one of those “old-school things” people hype up for nostalgia. You know… like cassette tapes making a comeback or people suddenly loving film cameras again. There’s something about vinyl that quietly pulls you in… and before you know it, you’re hooked.

Then I tried it. And now? Here I am 😅!

I didn’t expect it to go this far, honestly. But this whole vinyl thing? It made me even more addicted to music.

Every time I play a record, it feels different. Not just “better”—different. It’s like the artist is right there in front, performing just for me.

Now, if your ears are sharp enough, you’ll notice the difference between vinyl, CD, and digital. I used to think CDs and digital were the peak of audio quality—and technically, they are. Clean, precise, no noise.

But vinyl… vinyl has character.

It’s warmer. Fuller. A bit imperfect—but in a good way. The kind of sound that feels alive – this is why vinyl never really disappeared.

The Turntable

So yeah, let me flex this a little 😄

April 9 last year, I finally gave in and bought my own turntable from Amazon UK—the Pioneer DJ PLX-500-K Direct Drive Turntable. Black, clean, and solid.

At £319.00 or Php 25,000.00, I won’t lie—it felt a bit pricey. But if something becomes your hobby, you’ll always find a way to justify it. That’s just how it is.

Parang mga sugarol ug manok—at all cost, may dahilan lagi 😅

Why I Chose This Model

Simple lang: long-term vision.

At the time, I didn’t even have a Bose Music Amplifier yet. But in my head, I already knew—I wanted an all-Bose setup in the house someday.

Call it advance planning… or budol in slow motion 😄

So when I was choosing a turntable, I made sure it would fit into the Bose system. I didn’t want to buy something I’d have to replace later.

That’s how I landed on the Pioneer DJ PLX-500-K Direct Drive Turntable.

And of course, there’s the brand trust. Pioneer Corporation has been around for decades, and if you grew up around sound systems in the ‘80s or ‘90s, you know the name carries weight.

So this wasn’t just a random buy—it was me slowly building the setup I had in mind from the start.

More Than Just Music

What surprised me the most is that vinyl listening isn’t just about sound—it’s an experience.

You don’t just press play and walk away. You pick the record. You place it carefully. You drop the needle. And then… you listen.

In a world where everything is instant and fast, vinyl forces you to slow down—and somehow, that makes the music feel more meaningful.

I used to think vinyl was just for collectors or old-school audiophiles. Now? I get it. It’s not just about hearing music—it’s about feeling it. And once you experience that kind of connection, it’s hard to go back.
