Edinburgh Airport
Once again, I’ve wrapped up another contract onboard the Balmoral, and right now, I’m at Edinburgh Airport in the UK. I’ve already checked in, passed through security, had a nice meal, and now I’m just waiting for my flight. Isn’t that awesome?
Edinburgh Airport might not be as big or fancy as Dubai International, Hamad International, or Changi Airport—some of the most impressive airports I’ve been to—but I have to say, the process here is super smooth and efficient. I was really impressed!
Can you believe it? In less than 30 minutes, I was already sitting down, enjoying my food, and basically all set for my trip. That’s not something you experience every day in big international airports.
Only thing is, my flight isn’t until 3:10 PM—still a good 3 hours to go. I’m flying with Qatar Airways, flight QR030, from Edinburgh to Doha. So now, it’s just time to relax, maybe do a bit of people-watching, and just enjoy the airport vibe.
Since I’ve got some time to spare, I thought I’d share a few helpful tips for anyone flying out of Edinburgh Airport—especially if it’s your first time here. These might make your travel smoother and a little more enjoyable:
1. Luggage Wrapping Service
If you want your checked luggage wrapped for protection, look for Luggage Point near the check-in area. Wrapping costs around £18, depending on your bag’s size. It’s a good option if you want to protect your suitcase from scratches, rain, or handling damage.
2. More Food Options After Security
There are a few cafés in the check-in area, but if you’re looking for more variety, wait until after you clear security. Inside the departure area, you’ll find a lot more options for food, drinks, and snacks—perfect if you’re planning to grab a bite before boarding.
3. Wi-Fi Access
Yes, the airport offers free Wi-Fi, but during my visit, I had trouble connecting. It kept saying “Unable to join the network.” Maybe it was just a temporary glitch, because I’ve used the Wi-Fi here in the past with no issues. Still, it’s smart to have mobile data ready, just in case.
4. Duty-Free Shopping Reminder
If you’re planning to shop at the duty-free stores, just a heads-up—check the duty-free allowances of your next destination. Some countries are strict about what you can bring in, even if it’s duty-free. Personally, I skip shopping at the airport (even if I’m tempted) because I don’t like carrying extra stuff in-flight.
5. Entertainment While Waiting
If your flight’s still hours away, make sure you’ve got your AirPods, headset, or earbuds with you. Listening to music, podcasts, or watching videos is a great way to pass the time while waiting at the gate. Trust me, it makes a big difference.
6. Bring a Power Bank
Last but definitely not least—don’t forget a power bank! If your phone runs low on battery while waiting, it’s super handy to have your own charger. Lesson learned for me—I didn’t bring one! While there are charging spots at the airport, having your own battery pack is just way more convenient.
Edinburgh Airport might not be the flashiest airport in the world, but it’s well-organized, efficient, and traveler-friendly. With a little planning and the tips above, your time here can be smooth and even enjoyable.
Safe travels, everyone—and don’t forget your charger! 😉
