Who knew Lopez Jaena in Misamis Occidental had so many beautiful clay products? Pots, jars, stoves, vases – name it, they have it.
Honestly, I didn’t even know Lopez Jaena was known for clay products. I only found out when my wife asked me to buy some ornamental clay pots from there.
We’re actually from Baroy, Lanao del Norte – the clay capital of the province. But funny enough, we still had to go to a neighboring province just to buy these ornamental clay pots. Imagine that – living in the clay capital yet having to travel elsewhere to find the pots we need.
As far as I can recall, there was a livelihood program back then in Baroy that used our town’s clay resources for pottery-making. If only it was implemented well, Baroy would surely be known for its clay products by now – it could even boost tourism. Really frustrating, right? For now, I’ll just keep buying pots from Lopez Jaena… while wishing our own clay capital lives up to its name someday.
