I first discovered 5R’s River Rock Garden when my close friends Eric and Negilyn from Clarin, Misamis Occidental brought me there last October. They knew I would enjoy the place—simple, open, relaxing—and they were right. After that first visit, I ended up returning again just a few weeks ago.
What I liked about 5R’s is how different it feels compared to your usual town restaurants. It has an open-air garden setup, a lot of plants, and several comfortable spots where you can eat, drink, or just hang out. Even though the place looks quiet and laid-back, it’s actually located right in the town center of Clarin—just a short walk from the DFA satellite office and close to the Clarin Pasalubong Center.
An area that makes 5R’s unique is the seating section under the grapevine ceiling. Instead of a regular roof, the owners trained grape plants to grow and spread naturally under a clear polycarbonate cover. It gives the place a comfortable shaded area while still letting light through.
On my second visit a few weeks ago, I sat here again and noticed something interesting — the grapevines are actually bearing fruit. Seeing real grape clusters hanging above you while you dine is not something you see every day in a resto-bar in town. The fruits are even wrapped in mesh bags to protect them, which adds a simple but nice touch.
I also bought a small grape plant from the place, which I later planted at home. A nice little reminder of 5R’s and this unique setup.
At night, the area looks even nicer. The warm lights blend well with the vines, giving the whole spot a soft, relaxed vibe — perfect for casual hangouts, small celebrations, or just a quiet dinner.
5R’s has native bamboo huts where you can enjoy your food in a more private and cozy setting. These huts give a classic Filipino feel — simple, comfortable, and perfect for groups or families.
Inside, the setup is clean and homey, with bamboo furniture and plenty of natural light coming through. This is where I had lunch during one of my visits, and it’s a great spot for long conversations and laid-back meals. The huts are also spaced well, so you don’t feel crowded even on busy days.
5R’s also features a live band on weekends, making it a nice place to chill out at night. I’m not sure if it’s every Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, but the performances usually happen on weekend evenings. However, the live band is cancelled when it rains, since the setup is outdoors.
If you enjoy acoustic nights or simple live music while having dinner or drinks, this is definitely something to look forward to when visiting.
Whether you’re sitting in the native hut or under the grapevines, the food makes the visit even better. 5R’s serves Filipino dishes and drinks that fit the garden setting well. During our visit, we ordered several dishes that were great for sharing — the kind of food that matches the relaxed feel of the place.
This resto-bar doesn’t try to be fancy. Its strength is its simplicity: good food, a comfortable setting, friendly staff, and a natural environment that makes meals feel more enjoyable.
5R’s offers a laid-back place to enjoy Filipino meals, snacks, and drinks without the noise and rush. The mix of greenery, bamboo huts, the grapevine canopy, and its town-center location makes it a practical and enjoyable stop in Clarin. Whether you want a casual lunch, a place to bring visitors, or a quiet corner to sit down and relax, 5R’s is a good choice.
