Just sharing about our greenhouse that we built on our lot, which is actually the lot next to the lot next to our house. It sounds funny when I say it like that, but that’s exactly where it is – not directly beside our house, but just two lots away. The photo here is not the latest. This was taken when the greenhouse was nearing its completion.
Originally, our plan for this lot was to build an apartment. In fact, we already have the apartment plan on blueprint, complete with the engineers’ signatures. We really thought of building it soon, but in the end, we didn’t proceed with that plan for now. We decided to put the apartment project on hold until the right time comes.
Then one day, my wife came up with a different idea. She said, “Why don’t we build a greenhouse on our vacant lot instead?” When she told me about it, I didn’t even think twice. I totally supported her because I really love farming. Anything about planting, growing vegetables, or just seeing green things around makes me happy and relaxed.
First, we needed to build a fence around the lot. For now, we just used cyclone wire with cement-filled PVC pipes as posts. It’s practical and affordable compared to making a full concrete fence. Plus, it’s only temporary, so we didn’t bother applying for a permit from the LGU, which is required for concrete fences.
Another good thing is that the adjacent lots beside us already have their own fences, so I only needed to build fencing on the two remaining sides. That saved us time, effort, and money.
After the fence was done, we built the greenhouse itself. The structure is made of tubulars, making it strong enough to withstand wind and rain. It’s spacious enough for different types of vegetables and herbs. Our plan for now is to plant vegetables that we can consume at home, or maybe turn it into a small profit. We’ll see how it goes.
We also have a future plan to build a small bahay kubo inside the lot. It would be nice to have a place to relax while watching the plants grow.
Now the greenhouse is finished, along with the fence. I’m just waiting to see what my wife plans to do next.
